WHAT’S NEW AT NISSAN IN 2017?
THE WAIT FOR THE NEW NISSAN NAVARA IS ALMOST OVER
There is always a lot happening at Nissan and 2017 is no different. Nissan Micra has grown up nicely, and the Qashqai is getting a facelift, but the biggest news at Nissan this year is the imminent launch of the all-new Nissan Navara in March.
Fans who have been waiting for this will be glad to know that the wait is almost over and several significant improvements are likely to make the new Nissan Navara one of the most desirable bakkies on the leisure pickup market this year.
The European version was already chosen as the 2016 International Pick-up of the Year. Judges praised the performance from the bi-turbo diesel engine and loved the ride and handling from the independent rear suspension, while their loading and towing tests proved that the Navara remained a very capable pick-up.
Nissan didn’t change too much as far as the sexy exterior of the Navara is concerned, but it does feature a revised front grille, restyled bumper and sleeker bonnet. Beneath this good looking exterior the work horse engine easily hauls a 1-tonne load or pulls 3.5 tonnes on the rear hook.
Of course, the true test of any 4×4 double cab is when it leaves the well travelled, smooth road and head out on an off road adventure. The new Navara’s more lightweight construction, together with a selectable 4WD drivetrain, will make it a pleasure to take where few other cars dare to venture. The driver can chose from a 2WD mode, a 4WD HI mode for slippery conditions or gravel surfaces, and the full 4WD LO mode for traversing any demanding landscape.
- 20mm more ground clearance
- Five link suspension and coil springs at the rear makes for a smoother ride.
- Differential lock is standard on South African models.
- The 2.3 liter engine will initially only be available in diesel, followed by petrol models.
- The double cab will be fitted with 18” wheels and tyres.
- Carbon emissions and fuel consumption are impressively low.
REFINED AS A GENTLEMAN
Now look past the tough exterior, and you’ll find a refined gentleman as far as the interior is concerned. The new Navara ticks all the boxes when it comes to comfort and helpful technology. All models will include colour touchscreen infotainment systems with built-in satellite navigation. Maneuvering this substantial piece of car is also a breeze, with rear park sensors standard on all models and tilt adjustable power steering. You’ll be pleased to find a comfortable five-seat configuration – in leather, with increased legroom. So whether you’re looking for your next adventure destination, or just your next meeting, you can trust the Navara to get you there in comfort and style.
PEACE OF MIND
All Navaras will retail locally at competitive prices. They will go up against rivals such as the Toyota Hilux, VW Amarok, Isuzu double-cab and Ford Ranger, with a class-leading six-year or 150 000km manufacturer warranty, setting them apart. This speaks volumes about the manufacturer’s confidence in their product and will surely do a lot for drivers’ peace of mind. Whatever the weather, terrain or time of day, wherever you’re going, whatever the task, it most certainly is a job for the Nissan Navara.
